What would a Tacoma streetcar system look like?
Such a system would link most of Tacoma’s neighborhoods, business districts, and Mixed Use Centers together with frequent and convenient transit connections that do not exist today – Proctor to Tacoma Avenue, Lincoln District to the Stadium District, 6th Avenue to Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Lines could conceivably be constructed in a series of four phases over the next 30 years. The concept displayed below has a total length of ~60 track miles, or about half of the size of the system in 1938.
Tacoma Link – Tacoma Dome, UW-Tacoma, Union Station, Theater District/City Hall
Phase 1 – Tacoma General Hospital, 6th and Proctor
Phase 2 – Regional Connections to St. Joseph Medical Center and Tacoma Community College
Phase 3 – Proctor, Lincoln District, Portland Ave, and Tacoma Avenue
Phase 4 - Old Town, Point Defiance, McKinley, South Tacoma Way, and Fern Hill
